ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif on Thursday hired his new counsel as Khawaja Haris withdrew from representing Sharif in National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) reference cases.
Jahangir Jadoon has been appointed as Nawaz’s counsel, who appeared before the court to submit the power of attorney on his clients behalf.
During the hearing, Maryam Nawaz’s counsel Amjad Pervaiz failed to appear in court.
Accountability Judge Mohammad Bashir, irked by Pervaiz’s absence directed the defense to present final arguments by June 19.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 19, as Nawaz along with daughter Maryam had been exempted from court appearances today.
Earlier on Thursday morning Nawaz and Maryam departed for London to celebrate Eid with ailing wife and mother Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, who is battling cancer and undergoing treatment.
Earlier on June 11, Haris had announced his decision recusing himself as Nawaz’s counsel during hearing of Al-Azizia reference case. Former counsel had said that he was withdrawing owing to Supreme Court’s (SC) dictation to end all three references with 30 days by working on evenings and weekends.
Sharif and family have been under trial for corruption in Avenfield properties, Flagship Investments and Al Azizia Steel Mills supplementary reference cases filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Wajid Zia has already recorded his statement in Avenfield properties and Al-Azizia reference cases.
