ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the launching ceremony of the Central Asia-South Asia 1,000 (CASA-1000) power project, which will commence on May 12, at the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
Nawaz will be accompanied by Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi.
The prime minister will also have a bilateral meeting with the Tajik president in which matters related to trade, energy and defence will be discussed.
Under the CASA-1000 project, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1,300 MW of electricity to Pakistan and 300 MW of electricity to Afghanistan during the summer season.
The CASA-1000 project, expected to be completed by 2018, is a flagship project and the first of its kind that will link Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in electricity grid.
